Multidisciplinary Artist and Researcher
based in NYC.
I go by Audrey or Aud.
My Mother, who is originally from Shanghai, China, also named me RuYi, which means “As You Wish” in Mandarin. In Chinese Buddhism, RuYi is a ceremonial back scratcher…I mean scepter, that one may gift to another to offer good wishes and power.
Until 2004, I lived in the small agricultural-suburban town of East Lyme, Connecticut. At age 11, I moved across the globe to the densely populated city of Hong Kong. My father had accepted a job there. This environmental shift was the catalyst that launched me into a different life path. Driven by curiosity and inspiration, I am committed to investigative research and writing, and communicating my findings through art.
Today, I am a freelancing researcher, graphic designer & illustrator.
I am also a storyteller. Apart from writing, I love working with visual and audio tools to tell stories showing lesser known information, interconnections, and ideas using public data, oral histories/interviews on topics spanning immigration, art, food and drink, music, movies, pop culture, and mythology.
